Agents from federal agency arrested Ameaka, who is originally from Cameroon, for allegedly overstaying a visa on July 28 at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

As of Friday morning, she was being held in the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center, located roughly 90 miles outside of Baton Rouge.

James Mulhern III, 43, of Clarksburg, was charged earlier this year with one count of sex abuse of a minor. Court records indicate he now faces seven more charges of sex abuse of a minor. A bond hearing will be held Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.

Mulhern鈥檚 employment status with the school district was not immediately clear on Wednesday. He had been on leave without pay since April, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

District leaders will be parsing these results to figure out whether recent changes to academic programs and curricula are paying off in Maryland鈥檚 largest school system.

鈥淲e are far from finished, but this is really encouraging progress. We see clear and steady improvement in our proficiency across the board,鈥� Superintendent Thomas Taylor said in a statement.

The annual exam, called the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program, tests students in grades 3鈥�8 and some high schoolers in English, math and science. Students score a 1 through 4 on the assessments, with the top two levels considered proficient.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to a call from the Capital Guardian Youth Challenge Academy in Laurel around 2:21 p.m. While evaluating a patient, officials realized it was the third call the department had received from the same location in 90 minutes.

The calls were for people experiencing an array of minor symptoms, including lightheadedness. A total of 19 people, adults and minors, reported feeling similar symptoms and were transported to medical centers, elevating the call to a mass casualty response.

Brian Christopher, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said firefighters conducted a carbon monoxide investigation but the gas was not detected.

Among other changes, it shortened the list of places near which a person can carry guns and removed a restriction on purchasing and selling ghost guns in the presence of a minor.

These changes do not significantly affect the county鈥檚 gun restrictions, but rather tweak them to comply with the state鈥檚 existing laws.

The vote follows an April opinion in which the Maryland Supreme Court confirmed the county鈥檚 right to regulate firearms, but also found that some of its regulations either exceeded its authority or were preempted by state regulations.

Jacobs, 85, is not an employee of the office but helps organize and schedule evictions 鈥� one of the sheriff鈥檚 primary responsibilities. She also has what she called a听security detail made up of sheriff鈥檚 deputies, she said during a recent interview with The Banner.

The lawsuit, one of several President Donald Trump鈥檚 administration has brought against Democratic-led states and cities, takes issue with the听.
