MONDAY EVENING
Passing Clouds
Temperatures:聽80s to 70s
Winds:聽Southeast 5-10 mph
A warm, quiet summer evening is expected with temperatures slowly falling through the 80s. Skies become mainly clear, the stickiness factor remains noticeable, and light winds continue.
MONDAY NIGHT
Scattered Clouds
尝辞飞蝉:听65-72
Winds:聽Southeast 5 mph
Plan for scattered clouds overnight. Temperatures only fall into the mid 60s and lower 70s. Warmer nights will become a growing part of the story over the next several days as the heat wave begins to take shape. Seasonable temperatures and moderate to high humidity. The ‘Strawberry’ full moon will shine bright under a few, scattered clouds.TUESDAY
Mostly to Partly Sunny
Highs:听苍别补谤听90
Winds:聽South 5-10 mph
The warming trend continues. Sunshine dominates with highs reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s, while humidity continues to increase. Heat index values climb into the middle 90s during the afternoon. While this is typical summer heat, it marks the beginning of what is expected to become a prolonged and increasingly dangerous stretch of hot weather through the Independence Day weekend.聽Farther west, a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for parts of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia. Heat index values could reach 102. The advisory does not include the Washington metropolitan area.

WEDNESDAY
Sunny, Very Hot
Highs: 95-100
Heat Index: 102-107
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
The heat wave officially arrives. Afternoon temperatures soar into the upper 90s to around 100, with heat index values climbing well above 100 degrees for most neighborhoods. Anyone with outdoor plans should begin taking precautions, as this is only the beginning of an even hotter stretch expected later in the week.聽Extreme heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States.
THURSDAY
Sunny, Extreme Heat
Highs: 100-105
Heat Index: 107-112
Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph
This is when the heat becomes dangerous. Afternoon highs are expected to reach 100 to 105 degrees, with tropical humidity pushing heat index values well into the 107 to 112 degree range. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly for anyone spending extended periods outdoors. This will likely be one of the hottest days the Washington region has experienced in several years. Heat alerts appear increasingly likely, and strenuous outdoor activity should be avoided during the afternoon. Sunshine dominates from start to finish.聽The record for Thursday is 101 degrees set over 125 years ago in 1898.
FRIDAY
Extreme Heat, Passing Clouds
Scattered PM Storms Possible
Highs:听100-106
Winds:聽West 5-10 mph
The prolonged heat wave intensifies with little, if any, relief. High temperatures once again climb into the 100 to 105 degree range while oppressive humidity keeps heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees. Multiple consecutive days of extreme heat greatly increase the health risk, especially for children, older adults and anyone working outdoors. Unfortunately, this comes just as Fourth of July weekend festivities begin. Late in the day, scattered thunderstorms may develop, and given the intense heat and humidity, a few storms could become strong or severe.SATURDAY
Extreme Heat
Thunderstorm Risk
Highs:聽around 100
Winds:聽West 5-10 mph
The Fourth of July forecast remains concerning for both dangerous heat and the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms. Afternoon temperatures near 100 degrees, combined with tropical humidity, will once again produce heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees. This would make three consecutive days of dangerous heat across the DMV. Any storm could produce dangerous lightning, damaging wind gusts and torrential rainfall, potentially disrupting holiday celebrations.

FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS FORECAST:
Lingering Showers and Storms End
Temperatures:聽90s to 80s
Winds:聽West 1-5 mph
If thunderstorms clear before showtime, the weather story may shift from lightning to smoke. Current guidance suggests west winds may become very light Saturday evening. That’s enough to allow smoke to accumulate over the Mall, especially during a long fireworks display. It’s still several days away, but wind speed, not just rain, could play a major role in the viewing experience. Fireworks begin at 10:30 this year over the National Mall.

SUNDAY
Scattered Showers, Storms
High:听95-100
Winds:聽West 10-15 mph
The heat wave continues, although temperatures may ease back slightly into the middle and upper 90s. Even so, humidity remains high, and heat index values will still exceed 100 degrees during the afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible, with some storms capable of producing gusty winds and heavy rainfall. While there are signs this historic stretch of heat may begin to weaken early next week, Sunday will likely be another day where heat safety remains a top concern.
