WASHINGTON — Sixteen high school students sustained bumps and scratches after a Charles County school bus accident Monday.
The teens were among 18 people taken to 听Charles County Medical Center after the crash, which听happened just before 7 a.m. at Hawthorne Road and Chicamuxen Road in Indian Head, according to Charles County Fire Department spokesman Bill 听Smith.
In addition to the students, the听school bus driver was taken to the Charles County Medical Center, says Katie O’Malley-Simpson, a spokeswoman for Charles County Public Schools.

The bus driver听sustained minor injuries, as did the driver of the car that was struck. The car driver has been released from the hospital.

School听bus No. 210 was heading to Henry E. Lackey High School when the crash occurred.
Police say the bus struck the back of a car making a left turn. The force of the collision forced the car into an oncoming car.
