WASHINGTON 鈥� Commuters between Arlington and D.C. will soon have a new option for getting around.
The car-sharing company car2go and officials from the two cities announced on Wednesday that car2go members will be able to start a trip in Arlington and drop off their cars in D.C., and vice versa.
The change takes effect May 26. Previously, car2go rentals had to be returned to the jurisdiction from which they鈥檇 been rented.
鈥淧artnering with Washington, D.C. is a logical next step for Arlington’s yearlong demonstration study with car2go,鈥� Arlington County Director of Transportation Dennis Leach said in a statement released by car2go.
鈥淲e are proud to partner with our colleagues in Arlington County to make travel easier and more flexible within the D.C. region,鈥� said Leif Dormsjo, director of the District Department of Transportation, in the statement.
鈥淭his new development improves quality of life by enabling more people to affordably go where they want, when they want,鈥� said聽car2go CEO Paul DeLong.
Car2Go says it also waived its $35 membership fee for and will provide them with 15 minutes of free driving time.
