Fairfax County supervisors vote for $20K pay raise

WASHINGTON 鈥 The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted to raise the salaries of future supervisors by $20,000 a year.

The vote was 6 to 4. Each member of the next board will make $95,000 a year, up from $75,000. The chairman will make $100,000, up from $75,000.

The increase, the first since 2008, will be effective Jan. 1, 2016, It will apply to those elected on Nov. 3, 2015.

Supervisor Pat Herrity,聽R-Springfield, voted against the motion.

鈥淚 could not vote to fund a raise. 鈥 Our residents don鈥檛 have the option to simply increase their pay to fund the Board鈥檚 salary and benefit increases,鈥 he said in a statement.

Fairfax County is trying to balance its budget after projecting a revenue gap of $90 million.

Board members in other jurisdictions make more than Fairfax County’s supervisors.

Board members in Montgomery County make $124,641 a year. In Prince George’s County, council members make $114,347.
