Man dies from Silver Diner crash injuries

WASHINGTON 鈥 A man who was struck by a SUV a cook drove into a Tysons Corner diner earlier this month died from his injuries Tuesday.

Andrew Sheren, 74, died from complications with injuries he sustained when Samuel O. Abutoh, 59, drove a SUV into the Silver Diner in Tysons Corner and then set himself ablaze on May 4.

Sheren, a McLean resident, was struck by the SUV as he entered the diner. Three other people, including Abutoh, were injured.

Abutoh, of Springfield, had been on bereavement leave from the restaurant since early April when he intentionally drove the vehicle into the diner, police said. Abutoh was seen 鈥減ouring liquid on his body and lighting himself on fire鈥 while he sat in the SUV after striking the building, police added.

Abutoh is still at an聽hospital. Fairfax County police said warrants will be served upon his release charging him with malicious wounding and destruction of property, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible, said Fairfax County police.
