WASHINGTON — A Frederick, Maryland, family that seemingly went off the grid a week ago is safe, the county sheriff’s office says.

The sheriff’s office had said Friday they were聽looking for Myung Joo, 33; Youn Kim, 35; Laura Joo, 5; Jenna Joo, 3; and Brandon Joo, 1; of聽Braveheart Drive, in Frederick.

On Monday,聽spokeswoman Amanda Hatcher said that the family had reached out to the Korean consulate, saying everyone was OK. The family聽told the consulate that they moved to North Carolina, sheriffs say. Authorities have asked the family to check in with police in North Carolina, who will then confirm they’re safe.

The family had been聽reported missing, along with their 2005 Mercury sedan (Maryland tags, A386986), by a family friend, on Oct. 23. The friend said the father, Myung, did not show up for work as expected. He is described as 5 foot, six inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Both adults’ cellphones had been turned off. Laura Joo was checked out of school early on Oct. 23 by Myung, the sheriff’s office says.
