Md. Board of Elections fixes temporary glitch in voter system

WASHINGTON 鈥 Maryland鈥檚 State Board of Elections said its voter system was offline for a 鈥渂rief period鈥 on Tuesday 鈥 the last day Maryland voters can register for the upcoming primary.

The board took the system offline to fix it after reports of slow response on the voter registration site, according to a statement forwarded by the board’s Nikki Charlson.

All of the data stored in the site is 鈥渟ecure and protected,” the statement said.

Voters have until 9 p.m. Tuesday to register to vote in the June 26 primary. Early voting starts June 14.

The full statement from the Maryland State Board of Elections reads as follows:

While the online voter registration system was not available for a brief period of time this morning, the system is back online and voters are using it to submit voter registration information.

After receiving reports of slow response rates, we took the system down as a precaution and quickly resolved the issue. While the system was down, it and all of the data stored in it were secure and protected.

We will continue to monitor the system closely today and encourage Marylanders to use it register to vote and update registration information.

The deadline to register to vote or update registration information is 9 p.m. today.
