$50M lawsuit: Metro pole left man with devastating injuries

WASHINGTON 鈥 A lawyer is suing Metro for $50 million after a metal pole came crashing down into his head as he got on an escalator at an exit from Metro Center last year, he says in a lawsuit.

According to the complaint, Kevin LoVecchio was leaving through the 13th Street and G Street exit on the afternoon of Aug. 31, 2015 when a metal pole used as part of the gates that block off the station overnight 鈥渧iolently struck鈥 him.

He stumbled up the escalator and got help from passers-by on the street who called 911.

The lawsuit claims that LoVecchio has not been able to work since the incident. The Harvard Law graduate is an associate at Williams & Connolly LLP.

A U.S. District Court judge gave him permission to redact some of his injuries in the court filing.

Metro has a policy of not commenting on ongoing litigation.

LoVecchio accuses Metro of negligence.
