After years of implementation and delays, air travelers are expected to have REAL ID聽to board an airplane 鈥� the sampling of passengers 91欧美激情 spoke with at Dulles International Airport were ready Wednesday morning.
鈥淚 got mine as soon as I found out about鈥� the requirement, said one passenger, as he and his wife walked from the ticket counter to the initial screening area for their gate. 鈥淚 had to get a new ID anyhow, because I wore glasses for years, and now I don鈥檛.鈥�
Another traveler and his wife said they typically take care of business as early as possible. 鈥淚t was a requirement a long time ago 鈥� we got it then.鈥�
Asked if he had his REAL ID, a young man with a travel pillow around his neck wasn鈥檛 terribly concerned: 鈥淚s that with the star? I think I already had it.鈥�
He empathized with people who went to the motor vehicle administration, during the recent rush to be compliant. 鈥滻 guess if they needed it, and had to go at the last minute, it was probably inconvenient.鈥�
“I鈥檓 on the road a lot, so I鈥檝e had it for a while,鈥� said a business traveler. 鈥淚鈥檓 probably in the airport two or three times a week.鈥�
“I think it鈥檚 great that we鈥檙e updating the standards, and we鈥檝e got something that makes it easier for us to make sure the airport鈥檚 secure and everybody is who they say they are,鈥� he said.
Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem聽told a congressional panel that 81% of travelers already have IDs that comply with the REAL ID requirements.
Those who still lack an identification that complies with the REAL ID law 鈥渕ay be diverted to a different line, have an extra step,鈥� Noem said.
鈥淏ut people will be allowed to fly,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e will make sure it鈥檚 as seamless as possible.鈥�
