A portion of Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda, Maryland, is closed Tuesday for an “extended period of time” after a water main break flooded the street and damaged the roadway, according to Montgomery County officials.
The break caused significant flooding near the Bradley Shopping Center and shut down Bradley Boulevard from Arlington Road to Hillandale Road. Road closures may spread to other nearby streets, according to Montgomery County police.
WSSC Water told 91欧美激情 they have shut off the water to a broken pipe that is 20 inches in diameter. WSSC Water crews are still on the scene, and police told drivers to avoid the area and expect delays.
“As soon as we get down there and see what’s going on with the pipe, we’ll have a better idea at that point to say how long repairs will take,” Lyn Riggins, spokesperson with WSSC Water, told 91欧美激情.
Riggins said the main break has closed both sides of Bradley Boulevard, and crews are working on the west side of the street between Arlington and Hillandale roads. She said repairing the pipe is a process.
“This pipe is several feet below ground, so we need to identify where, exactly, where to dig, we need to break up all of that ground, dig down, get down to that pipe, get the pipe out, get the pipe in,” Riggins said. “It is not a quick fix, but we will work as quickly as possible.”
Riggins added that the pipe was installed in 2018 and the utility is working to understand why it failed.
