ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Two former members of the Alexandria City Council and two incumbents are among the six winners of the Democratic primary for spots on the council, according to .
With 9.07 percent of the vote, former councilmember Timothy B. Lovain captured the most votes with 5,386, followed by Justin M. Wilson with 8.74 percent of the vote. Wilson, also a former councilmember, had 5,189 votes. Both Lovain and Wilson have transportation backgrounds.
Allison Silberberg, chair of Alexandria’s Economic Opportunities Commission, received 8.7 percent of the vote. During her campaign, said that spending $1 million on a waterfront plan was not a good use of taxpayers’ money.
Incumbents Redella S. “Del” Pepper and Paul C. Smedberg received 8.53 percent and 8.34 percent of the votes, respectively.
John Taylor Chapman, an after-school specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools, was the sixth-highest vote-getter, with 7.82 percent. The native Alexandrian, who grew up in two different public housing communities, ran on a platform that stressed affordable housing and children’s issues.
