WASHINGTON – An icon of the ’50s and ’60s is hot again in our region.
Pop-up drive-in movie theaters have been created this summer at D.C.’s Union Market and at restaurant in Frederick, Md., and another will appear in the area next month.
The Rockville Drive-in closed in 1981, but it will be recreated in August.
The will bring three movies to a three-story high, 52-foot wide inflatable screen along Hungerford Drive.
The series, running Aug. 16 to Aug. 18, will include screenings of “Oz the Great and Powerful,” “Skyfall” and “The Amazing Spider Man.”
There will be space for 180 cars in the viewing area, and overflow parking available for more cars.
If you don’t want to watch from a car, you also can choose to sit up front on a lawn chair or blanket.
There will be children’s activities and live entertainment before each movie.
Admission will be free but donations will be collected to benefit NIH Children’s Charities.
