A 9-year-old boy is dead after a crash Thursday while he was riding an electric scooter in a Herndon, Virginia, parking lot.
Fairfax County police said the driver who struck the boy was turning into the parking lot of a townhome development on the 3000 block of Madden Court.
The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver remained on the scene.
“As you can imagine, this is a tragic incident for everyone, including the driver聽and our department stands by to assist her needs and the needs of the family involved,” Capt. Chris Cosgriff, with Fairfax County police, told 91欧美激情.
Police said the crash happened at around 5:30 p.m.
“Our detectives with our crash reconstruction unit are still piecing together the circumstances of the crash as far as speed, angles, directions that the vehicle and the boy on the scooter were traveling. That’s going to be part of a very thorough investigation,” Cosgriff said.
The boy wasn’t wearing a helmet and Cosgriff said the community needs to come together and talk to one another and their children about safety.
“Don’t hesitate to speak up. Talk to kids who are doing something dangerous who aren’t wearing helmets,” Cosgriff said. “The most important thing is that the community stick together during this time.”
